Walking the streets of Madrid
We stayed in a very central hotel and this was definitely a good idea. We were able to walk to so many of the attractions and we really enjoyed walking around the city. There is a lot of action based around the Plaza Mayor and we thoroughly enjoyed trying out the tapas bars around the Cava Baja. This is definitely a good way to get around.

Visit the zoo if you have kids
The Madrid Zoo Aquarium is good if you have come here with your children. It opened in 1770 and now has around 6000 animals. We loved the aquarium part and the dolphins. It is on the Casa de Campo and has fairly recently been tarted up a bit, so was nice and fresh when we went there. The fodo was quite good as well.

Plaza de Espana - the main square in Madrid and Spain
This is the heart of Madrid and one of Spain's largest and busiest public plazas. Lots of steet vendors tend to gather here and we enjoyed walking around and seeing what they were offering. There are some coll monuments and statues, and a big fountain. After we felt we'd explored the Plaza de Espana, we headed on down the Gran Via, which was right next to it.
